Art for Youth London

Writer: Sam FairbairnSam Fairbairn

Having rejoined the AfY committee after a number of years it was great fun to back at the Mall Galleries, London W1 and involved in the set up and event itself. Monday was spent receiving artist work and up and down ladders hanging work in the smaller galleries, the main gallery being left to the professionals. By the end of day one we were making headway but there was still a long way to go. Tuesday started bright and early also with paintings having to be checked against their descriptions and artists bio's placed. It was hard to believe that by 6.30 as the first guests arrived it was looking immaculate and ready to go.

It was exciting to see 5 pieces hung and 3 sold on the opening night. My mystery art was also snapped up. These are postcard size paintings donated by the artist and sold for £50 each. It raises a huge amount for the charity Youth UK and provides vital funds to support our young people in the community.

In addition, the auction and silent auction provided valuable fund raising. An enormous thank you to Quintessentially who gave some wonderful prizes for the Silent Auction.

Next year will be our 35 year anniversary so please put in your diary as soon as the dates are released.
